Eating out, Mar Menor Golf Resort
Restaurants and bars on the resort and nearby
The Mar Menor Golf Resort is fairly well supplied with a variety of places to eat, both in the centre around the hotel and in El Boulevard, the row of premises at the southern end of the urbanization, near to the entrance and next to the main external road.
The plush main restaurant in the Intercontinental Hotel serves excellent cuisine and is open to non-residents. Outside and inside dining are available, overlooking the pool and golf course, and prices are what one would expect from a 5-star facility. The main Nomad restaurant specializes in typical Mediterranean cuisine, and is open all year round offering the chance to enjoy typical regional dishes. The staff are particularly proud of their rice dishes, and “caldero” is an experience not to be missed out on if you enjoy fish and plenty of garlic!
Either side of the hotel are the clubhouse bar and the Clover Irish Golf Tavern, both of which offer the opportunity to eat either inside or outside, with snacks on offer throughout the day.
There is also an Italian-style diner in the hotel complex, which offers pizza and pasta dishes as well as a children’s menu, and the main bar/restaurant of the social club is another pleasant area in which to sit out and enjoy your food by the pool.
On El Boulevard there is more to choose from. All the bars and restaurants here can be accessed from inside or outside the resort, and among them are American diners, international restaurants, The Shamrock sports bar offering appetizing pub-style breakfasts, lunch and evening meals, a tavern, a grill house, Italian restaurant La Gustosa, a wine bar-cum-restaurant and an establishment offering both Italian and Indian dishes, Tasty Bites. A couple of atmosphere bars complete the offer on this strip.
Eating off resort
If you prefer to venture out of the development for a meal, there is plenty on offer only a short distance away. The towns of Torre Pacheco and Los Alcázares are within ten minutes’ drive, and both offer a wide range of dining experiences, from a plethora of typically Spanish eateries to an impressive list of international cuisine.
Torre Pacheco is the smaller of the two towns but there are still a number of restaurants, including two or three with Italian cuisine, the restaurants nearly all Spanish owned.
In Los Alcázares the number of options available is almost endless. Whether your preferences are Mediterranean, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, French, American or even British, you’ll be able to find something to satisfy the taste buds!
Los Alcázares is home to a large ex-pat community throughout the year, so has considerably more British-geared businesses and restaurants, with menus in English widely available. The main focal points are the Oasis Centre, which is next to the exit for Los Alcázares north and the Río Nalón, in the centre of the town, ( known locally as English Alley) due to the numbers of expat-orientated businesses and services. The seafront and old town of Los Alcázares also has a good number of hostelries, as well as Spanish restaurants.
Both Los Alcázares and Torre Pachecho are close enough to make a taxi easily affordable if the task of choosing a designated driver for the evening proves too controversial! ( Taxis available from outside of the hotel)
Slightly further afield, Mar Menor Golf Resort is no more than 20 minutes from Cartagena and 35 minutes from Murcia, bringing both of the Region’s major cities within easy range for a special meal out. The southern end of the Costa Blanca is also close by (Pilar de la Horadada 15 minutes, Torrevieja 30 minutes), as is La Manga (30 minutes), so there’s no excuse for failing to combine a little sightseeing with broadening your gastronomic horizons.
