Los Alcázares presents the first designated water sports beach in the Mar Menor

Specialized facilities for learners and international competitors at the Playa de las Salinas in Los Alcázares

Los Alcázares presents the first designated water sports beach in the Mar MenorFor many years Los Alcázares has been at the forefront of water sports activity in Spain, with sailors, windsurfers and other specialists being drawn to the area by the calm water, the climate and the prevailing breezes on the Mar Menor, and the town has now unveiled the first designated water sports beach in the lagoon.

The Playa Náutica de Las Salinas is intended to become an even stronger focal point for sports tourism and training in the Mar Menor, reinforcing the reputation of the town both nationally and internationally as more and more champions either learn or hone their skills here. At the same time, this is viewed as a further step towards the creation of sustainable, year-round tourism in the municipality.

Los Alcázares presents the first designated water sports beach in the Mar MenorThe beach is equipped with, among other things, areas for preparing and drying equipment, racks for boards and sails, shaded areas, new street furniture and signage, a weather station and a real-time information screen. Alongside these is a source of particular local pride, the “Paseo de las Estrellas Náuticas”: in recognition of their contribution to promoting the reputation of Los Alcázares, stars are placed in honour of “alcazareño” heroes such as José Manuel Ruiz Sánchez (a world sailing champion), Claudia León Martínez (national kitesurf champion), sailing champion Rafa de la Hoz Tuells, Irene Sánchez Quiles, Alex López Muñoz, Pedro Garijo Velasco and Mara Peñalver Párraga, whose names were the first unveiled this week.

As Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera stated during the presentation, this is one of the best places in Spain for water sports, holding national and international championships in disciplines such as sailing, windsurf, kitesurf and wingfoil, while Councillor Jesús Ramón Alcaraz added that this Will be a boost not only for those who train in Los Alcázares permanently but also for those who come here to compete from elsewhere.
