The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecast to reflect changing weather conditions, and has issued yellow- and orange-level weather alerts for various adverse phenomena in the Region of Murcia this Tuesday June 17 and Wednesday 18, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and high temperatures.
Starting at 1pm on Tuesday 17, the western half of Murcia – including Lorca, Mazarrón and Águilas all the way up to Caravaca de la Cruz, as well as the centre of the Region around Alhama de Murcia and Murcia city – will be on yellow alert for the chance of thunderstorms with the possibility of “strong winds” and rainfall of up to 15mm per hour. These alerts will last until 10pm.
In addition, the north of Murcia, in the area of Yecla and Jumilla, will be on orange alert as those storms “could be accompanied by hail” and the rainfall could be as much as 20mm per hour. At the same time, central Murcia is also on alert between 1pm and 9pm for maximum temperatures reaching as high as 38ºC.
The Campo de Cartagena and Mar Menor area will not be subject to any weather warnings.
