More than 140,000 Murcianos to get a new GP next week
Family doctor transfers and new hires across the Region take effect from Thursday May 29

Starting Thursday May 29, 106 family doctors will officially begin their new posts as part of a transfer process approved by the regional health service. This follows an open competition that allowed doctors working within the system to apply for new roles in Primary Care.
The transfer process began in July 2024, when a resolution was published in the Official Bulletin (BORM), inviting applications for 409 vacant or unconfirmed positions. However, due to a continuing shortage of family doctors, only 141 applications were submitted. From those, 106 transfers were approved, while the remaining 303 positions remain unfilled. According to the Health Ministry, those posts are currently covered under different contract arrangements.
Alongside the internal transfers, a public employment offer (OPE) is also being implemented, with 18 new family doctors joining the service after passing competitive exams. The selection process concluded in December 2024, when the successful candidates were officially listed on the Murciasalud website. In total, 222 candidates applied for the OPE places.
The SMS has confirmed that both the transfer and hiring procedures are scheduled to be finalised and published in the last week of May. The goal is to coordinate both changes to reduce disruption for patients as the summer holiday period approaches.
